Monster Mash Presses On

Lee Presson and the Nails

Halloween preparations are in the air once again. Over in Alameda, the historical USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum will present its annual Monsters Bash on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Start planning those zombie costumes as a contest is in store along with live music by Lee Presson and the Nails, Lost Dog Found and DJ Rockin Raul for dancing, a no-host bar, food vendors, and plenty of free parking. This mighty aircraft carrier transforms for the evening and participants must be 21 years of age.

Boo! The costume contest offers a cash prize and twenty costumed participants will compete beginning at 11:15 p.m. The competitors are selected when contest entry keys are dispersed among various judges who secretly hand them out throughout the evening. If you are one of the lucky ones to receive a contest key then your costume has been deemed scary enough to enter the contest.

Trick or treat! The haunted Hornet corridors will feature a maze of spooky twists and turns in the bowls of the aircraft carrier and participants will be spooked by the Haunted Foc’s’le attraction as they hear legendary haunted stories of the USS Hornet’s past.

An annual fundraiser for the USS Hornet, doors open at 7:00 p.m. Lost Dog Found featuring Rachel Sierra appear from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. followed by Lee Presson and the Nails from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. before the contest and then returning from 11:45 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. MC Handsome Hawk Valentine (aka Robert Ghoulet) also joins the festivities.

General admission tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. VIP combo tickets are also available. For tickets and more information, visit www.uss-hornet.org. Tickets are also available on Eventbrite.

Earlier in the day on Oct. 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the public is also invited to hear the Hornet Band play patriotic favorites along with swing standards as well as start an impromptu dance party.
